‘The Data Trust is a custodian of information; the information it maintains and protects is the most valuable of treasures – memories, thoughts, images, aspirations.

Some treasures tarnish and fade with time, others become more thrilling and telling, providing glimpses and insight in to times gone past.

As trustees of the Data Trust, it is our responsibility to protect that treasure, both in the hope and expectation that future generations will come and be inspired and enriched.

The Data Trust is a not for profit company responsible for ensuring the maintenance of and access to information intended for permanent availability online.

Working in partnership with leading providers of secure webspace, the Data Trust has ongoing agreements to ensure long term and/or perpetual access to both public and private data and information.

This work includes not just ensuring permanent uptime access through a network of servers, but also organizing backing up systems and procedures sufficient to safeguard against data loss.

The Trust monitors, reviews and renews these webspace agreements whilst reserving funds to ensure the permanent liquidity of the Trust. This is achieved by using the most prudent of forecasting assumptions on future webspace costs and fund returns.

Conceived in 1996 and established in 2005, the Data Trust is a Company limited by guarantee and run by a number of independent Trustees who ensure that the day to day operations meet the long term objectives of the Trust.
